A solid track record
River Cleanup was founded as a non-profit organization in Belgium in 2019. Since then, we have demonstrated that we can achieve results. In our first five years, we activated 285.000 volunteers in 100 countries, removed 3,5 million kilograms of river waste from nature and developed the Clean River Model as an open-source theory of change. In 2023 we successfully participated in the Ashoka Impact Programme in Belgium. We also evolved as an organization. Cleanup events are still important to generate awareness and, of course, to clean up, but we now work holistically with strategic early interventions in the plastic lifecycle for maximum impact. All this was achieved starting from zero on a limited budget. Imagine what we can achieve in the next five years with your support.
